Baby Skin Disorder – Baby Acne Causes | Treatment – Pt 1

What causes baby acne, which is another form of skin disorder? There are actually several reasons that can contribute to the baby acne breakout and I have compiled them according to the time of baby delivery:

1) At Before delivery - Baby acne can get started even as early as in the mother’s womb where the baby is exposed to mother’s maternal hormones. These hormones which originate from the placenta can increase oil production and

clogging the baby's sebaceous glands. Placenta is a connective organ to allow the baby for waste elimination and nutrient intake through the mother’s blood supply. Unhealthy diet especially oily food by the mother can increase the risks for the baby to be infected with neonatal acne (newly born baby acne ). 2) At Just After Delivery - Another reason for this baby acne maybe also be temporary hormonal imbalance suffered by the baby as the baby is now being introduced to the brave new world, no longer relying on his/her mother’s placenta. Also, breastfeeding can also introduce hormonal transfusion which increase the likelihood of acne breakout. 3) At After Delivery - Baby acne can also due to exposure to harsh environment such as smoke, chemical and dirt and anything that is in contact with the baby’s skin such as rough diapers, clothes and harsh ingredients during bathing. Newborn’s skin is an extremely sensitive skin as all of you know.

However, this baby acne ( neonatal acne ) typically peaks for approximately 2 months and you do not have to worry too much as it seldom requires treatment as over the time, the baby’s sebaceous glands gets smaller and become less active.
